In late 2004, Stars Front founder John Jenkins was a young soldier stationed at Fort Dix, New Jersey, preparing to deploy to Iraq with his unit, the 1173rd Transportation Company. During a required pre-deployment briefing, a presenter shared a story that left a lasting impression: the reason American service members wear the flag patch with the stars facing forward — often referred to as the “reverse flag.”

It represents the flag as it would appear if flying in the wind while a soldier charges ahead. The symbolism dates back to early battlefield traditions, where flag bearers would lead troops into battle with the stars at the forefront — a powerful image of progress and unyielding momentum.

This story stuck with John. It became a symbol not just of military pride, but of a mindset: pushing forward in life, in purpose, and in mission. Years later, when it came time to name his cider company, the choice was clear.

The name Stars Front is a tribute to those who carry the American spirit forward — in service, in resilience, and in craft. In the field, the stars face front on the flag worn by those who serve, always pushing forward, never retreating. That same spirit drives every cider we create.
